Summer temperatures in Dubai regularly reach 45°C to 48°C in the shade. In parts of Saudi Arabia, they push higher. Add direct sunlight heating a fixture's surface and internal temperatures inside a sealed housing can reach 70°C or more. At those temperatures, a standard LED driver  the component that regulates power  starts to fail faster than its rated lifespan suggests.

Desert dust is a second challenge. Fine particles find their way into any gap, coating optics and heat sinks, reducing both light output and thermal performance. Coastal areas like Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, and Dammam bring salt in the air, which accelerates corrosion on metal components that aren't properly sealed or treated.

IP ratings explained simply

IP stands for Ingress Protection. It is an international standard (IEC 60529) that tells you exactly how well a fixture is sealed against solid particles and water. Every outdoor fixture you specify in the UAE or Saudi Arabia should carry an IP rating  and you should know what it means.

The IP rating has two numbers. The first digit (0 to 6) is about dust protection. The second digit (0 to 8) is about water protection. A rating of IP65 means: completely dust-tight (6) and protected against water jets from any direction (5).
